Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The Book of Mormon gives us wonderful insight during a time when Alma and his followers were “suffering all manner of afflictions,” the Lord commanded them to “pray without ceasing, and to give thanks in all things.” Years before some of these followers had received a witness of God’s hand during their trying times, “that (they) may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions.”
As we understand the Plan of Happiness, we realize that showing thanks during times of difficulty can put into perspective what the purpose of life is. It can give us a sure knowledge of our Savior. It shows what He has done for us and continues to do for us as “he succors His people according to their infirmities.” During General Conference I felt as if God was visiting our family during our afflictions, we were uplifed and edified. We recieved a renewed sense of strength, love and peace. Praise be to God and His Son Jesus Christ. I know they are acutely aware of our needs and love us. May we look for the good and give thanks continually. I am grateful for the service you give to your fellow men. I miss you all, you are constantly in my prayers.
