A message from the Ward Council (11/14)

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Last night Joan Brog peacefully passed away.  She was an anchor in our ward and neighborhood for years.  Due to COVID-19, a small family funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00am.  Our prayers are with the Brog family at this time.

A question posed in President Nelson’s April 2020 General Conference message was, “How do you ‘Hear Him?’”  He counseled us “to take steps to hear Him better and more often.”  Many members of our church and the Quorum of the 12 Apostles discuss here how they “Hear Him”.  I have appreciated the different and deliberate ways I have found to Hear Him.  President Nelson continued, “While worshipping in the temple is presently not possible, I invite you to increase your participation in family history, including family history research and indexing. I promise that as you increase your time in temple and family history work, you will increase and improve your ability to hear Him.“

As a Ward Council we would like to invite your family to increase your temple and family history effort as a way to hear Him.  We encourage you to have several “Temple and Family History Experiences” over the next few weeks.  This can be accomplished by registering and familiarizing yourself with FamilySearch.org.  Your login credentials are the same as your LDS Tools or ChurchofJesusChrist.org.  If you need help please give a member of the ward council a call.

Once on FamilySearch.org you can start by engaging in any of the following activities:

·         Searching historical documents and discovering ancestors

·         Documenting family relationships

·         Preserving family photographs, stories, and histories

·         Preparing family names for temple ordinances

·         Indexing

·         Exploring the Activities tab on FamilySearch.org with your family

I used to think that my Family History was all done…I was myopic in my understanding.  After spending just a half hour logged into FamilySearch.org and seeing the many avenues of family history for me and my family I was hooked!

In each ward organization, we will focus more on temple and family history in the future.  I know as we give greater attention to this it will without a doubt increase our ability to hear Him!

With Love,

Bishop Allen
