Family History Experience — Brother Curt Hanks

Elk Ridge Ward Members,

Our Family History committee has come up with a challenge for each of us that I wanted to briefly talk about. The goal for ward members is to find a historical family photo that you can tell a story about, write it down and share it on Family Search. I sat down to do this and here I am 3 hours later reporting on my experience.

I started looking at old family photos with one of my sisters and ended up reading about a variety of experiences that my ancestors went through. I am not a big family history guy but I must admit that I kind of got caught up in it as I spent some time doing this. I came across a photo of my grandparents in the country store that they owned and ran in Lake Shore, Utah. It was called the Francis Market and for a while was the ONLY store in this small town in Utah County. I have fond memories of getting to select a candy bar and a soda pop every time we visited. Grandma insisted on kissing us all on the lips which wasn’t my favorite but I was willing to put up with it in order to claim my treat. All of the grandchildren got the same treatment and this photo flooded my mind with a lot of great memories.

I hope some of the rest of you can maybe have this same type of experience. Be careful – I thought I was going to be spending about 15 minutes doing this and ended up taking most of the afternoon.

Good luck! Curt Hanks
