I was recently able to login to Family Search, which I considered a small victory since it has certainly been a while. If you are wondering how to set up an account on familysearch.org click here for a quick how-to.
I did some exploring in my account hoping to come across something impactful to share. I discovered much of family history work is compiled of little discoveries and connections coming together to create a greater whole. In this case, my small discovery is something I hope to utilize with my parents and family members right now.
One thing my wife and I have discussed recently is our desire to start recording snippets of each of our parents to try to capture the details and nuance of their memories as told by them. So of course, in my wanderings on Family Search, I came across a tool called ‘Record My Story’:
It has a number of prepared topics that you can click on, followed by discussion prompts and the ability to record the memory/event as audio, or also text:
I took the time to record a story- it took a little over a minute and afterward I felt very accomplished and also hopeful for future use of this tool to accomplish our goals of capturing the stories of our parents.
Family Search offers some pretty incredible tools which we have at our fingertips, just a few clicks away. I invite you to spend a few minutes, even if it is just making the effort to get logged in to your account. That is definitely progress as I can attest and in my case, I found exactly what I needed to help me reach some meaningful goals.
