Ward Message

This week I opened up a tweet from Elder Bednar which took me to the following testimony and insights into how Elder Bednar hears and tries to listen to God.

Listening to his words and reading his testimony inspired me to think more deeply about how I “Hear Him” and I want to share some thoughts with you this week.

I Hear Him in the quiet spaces of life.  Our time on earth can be so full of time restraints, deadlines and worries that we often do not allow God to be heard.  Even when we have more time on our hands, we can easily fill it with more distractions. In the age of constant media, just one more text to answer and virtual meetings, God will speak to us with more spiritual delicacy than a digital alert or nudge.  Quiet yet piercing, still yet profound, the Spirit whispers truths to more than our ears.  Finding time to commune with God, giving Him his time, that is when I Hear Him speak to my heart. When the world has been shut out and I can reach my thoughts toward Him, I Hear Him and He knows I Hear Him.

I Hear Him through the works of human kindness.  I love that man was blessed with the ability to be kind.  All of us, no matter how hardened we become, still find room in our hearts for a little kindness.  Not to long ago I called up my mother to chat and see how she was doing.  She was making some cookies and asked if I wanted some.  I love cookies, probably one of my favorite things and she knows this.  Well she said that she would bring some over just after she dropped them off at someone else’s home.  I asked her to whom was she taking the cookies.  She responded as such, “I was at the bank today, and started to talk with the bank teller, and this little girl has just been going through a rough time.  So, I decided to make her some cookies and take it by her house.”  How my mother got her home address is a mystery, but my mother constantly made it a habit to be kind to the most unlikely of people.  When we see this kindness, even better when we show this kindness, we Hear Him. I have never regretted being too kind.
